If your answer to any of these questions is no, you should call Keever & Wiesenthal. Every client’s situation is distinctive. No one should face their future with cookie-cutter forms which disregard the uniqueness of their lives and relationships.
What happens to my property when I’m gone?
That is a question few people want to face. If you die without a will in Texas, the state has a plan of distribution for your property. Your priority has always been your family and taking care of them. You want to provide for your family after you’re gone in the same way you have looked out for them during your life. Let Keever & Wiesenthal assist you in developing an estate plan to honor your wishes.
Is it cost effective to create my own estate plan?
It can be less expensive to make your own decision and estate plan. If you don’t, the State of Texas will decide who gets your property after a lengthy legal proceeding, which your family must pay for, most likely, with proceeds from your estate.
How do I ensure that my wishes are followed?
You can memorialize your intentions in a variety of ways. Most common are a will and a compilation of documents called an “estate plan.”
An estate plan is a series of legal documents which are recognized by hospitals, banks, insurance companies, and by courts as instructions to take care of your affairs. An estate plan can include a will, medical power of attorney, physician’s directive, statutory durable power of attorney, designation of guardian, or disposition of remains. You can prepare for unexpected illness or disability by having an estate plan.
A will is a single document which generally describes who will administer your estate, who receives your property, in what proportions and how you want the general administration of your estate to proceed.
While you are able to make sound decisions about the legacy you would like to leave, consider memorializing your priorities and wishes. Pam Keever and Kathleen Wiesenthal of Keever & Wiesenthal will listen carefully to your priorities and help you develop the estate plan which will fit your needs.
